Here in Florence we have had a particularly cool summer, especially this August. So why not take advantage of the cool weather and explore the city on your bike? There are plenty of outdoor activities going on in Florence this month. In this cool weather it is tough to work up a sweat but you are guaranteed to get your heart pumping if you head by bike to Forte di Belvedere. The hill to arrive at the fort is extremely steep but the scenery along the way is picturesque and the view from Forte di Belvedere is one of the most spectacular in all of the city. In addition to the stunning vistas, the fort is the current location of a sculpture exhibit by Giuseppe Penone entitled ”Vegetable Perspective”. Forte Belvedere also hosts an aperitivo every evening – just make sure to arrive early, as the aperitivo ends at 8pm.

If you don’t feel like making the trek all the way up to the Forte Belvedere, then grab your bike and head down the river to La Spiagetta. There you escape the hustle and bustle of the city and relax along the river Arno. La Spaigetta is also home to Easy Living restaurant and bar so you can also enjoy a meal or aperitivo as well. The bar also hosts live DJ sets and other events, and like Forte di Belvedere, is a great place to enjoy the Florentine sunset.
